With everything going on the world around us, thanks to Covid-19, you too are probably without a groomer right now. I do my own grooming, however, I am not a professional groomer but I do know a few tips and tricks with trimming. The Shih Tzu coat can get out of hand very quickly, if not brushed daily. The longer the coat gets, the more mats seem to appear. As long as you keep your dog brushed, that’s half the battle.
Keeping the hair out of their eyes is necessary, either by pulling up for a topknot or by trimming around the eyes. Blunt ended shears are the best and safest. These great little shears are available in 2 sizes, 5.5 in. and 6.5 in. I prefer using the 5.5 in. shears.

Hold the bottom of the chin (beard) with one hand and try to hold the head as still as possible. I do one diagonal cut down each side of the nose. Always cut down, away from the eye. I also do a shorter cut across the top for the round-face look. This home face trim should do the trick until your groomer is back in business following the pandemic.
